Week 4 of VCT EMEA 2026 Stage 1 delivered two contrasting storylines on Thursday. FUT Esports extended their flawless run to 4-0 with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Karmine Corp, while Fnatic survived a genuine scare from GIANTX, also winning 2-1, despite fielding assistant coach Desmo as a stand-in for Veqaj, who missed the match due to health issues.
FUT Esports Complete a Perfect Group Alpha Run in VCT EMEA 2026 Stage 1
If anyone still considers FUT Esports a fluke, the evidence is running thin. The Turkish roster walked into their Week 4 match against Karmine Corp as the only unbeaten team in Group Alpha and walked out with that record intact.
KC started with real intent on their Haven pick, closing out the first map 13-9 in what briefly looked like a breakthrough moment for a team sitting at 0-3. But FUT regrouped on Lotus, taking it 13-10, and then controlled Bind from start to finish at 13-8 to seal the series. The mid-series adjustment was telling: FUT tightened their post-plant setups and cleaned up their mid-round transitions in a way KC simply could not match across the final two maps.
The broader picture here is worth examining. FUT entered Stage 1 after a turbulent offseason that saw cNed moved to inactive status, a complete coaching overhaul with Vlad (formerly of ULF Esports) replacing long-time head coach GAIS, and the late signing of sociablEE from NAVI just before the stage began. None of that disruption is visible in how this team plays. The addition of s0pp, the former ULF duelist who only recently turned 18, has added a raw mechanical edge that pairs well with KROSTALY and yetujey in the fragging department. Four wins in four weeks against Gentle Mates, NAVI, Team Liquid, and now Karmine Corp is not a soft schedule. That is a legitimate gauntlet.
For Karmine Corp, the loss drops them to 0-4, and their playoff hopes are now all but over. The roster built around SUYGETSU, dos9, and N4RRATE has struggled all year, from a 9th-10th finish at Kickoff through the Clash and now this. Their sole remaining group match is against NAVI on April 30, but even a win there would require an improbable sequence of results elsewhere to squeeze into the top four.
Fnatic Survive GIANTX With Desmo Stepping In for Veqaj
The bigger talking point from Thursday came out of Group Omega, where Fnatic’s unbeaten run came dangerously close to ending. Hours before the match, Fnatic announced that Veqaj would miss the series due to health issues, with assistant coach Desmo stepping into the active roster on short notice.
GIANTX sensed blood. On their Haven pick, they dominated from the opening pistol, taking the map 13-3 behind an exceptional individual display from ara, who finished the entire series with 59 kills, 37 deaths, and a 277 ACS across three maps. That 14/4 first-kill-to-first-death ratio tells the story of a player who was genuinely unguardable on Haven. The gap was so wide that it barely resembled a match between two playoff-caliber rosters.
Fnatic responded on their Bind pick, steadying the ship as crashies and Alfajer started winning key duels. Boaster’s mid-round calling stabilized a team that could have easily spiraled after the Haven blowout, and Fnatic took Bind 13-7 to force a decider. Breeze played out tighter at 13-9 in Fnatic’s favor, but the margins were thin throughout.
Desmo deserves particular credit. Flexing across three different roles throughout the series, the Danish assistant coach held his own well enough for Fnatic to survive. Community reactions highlighted his versatility and composure under circumstances that would rattle most stand-ins. Fnatic now sit at 4-0 in Group Omega, matching FUT’s perfect record on the Alpha side.
Standings and What Comes Next
Thursday’s results came after Wednesday’s action (April 22), where Team Liquid continued their strong run with a 2-1 win over NAVI, dropping the CIS-rooted roster to 1-3 and a precarious position in Group Alpha, while Eternal Fire handled PCIFIC Esports, who remain winless.
Both FUT Esports and Fnatic have mathematically clinched playoff berths while still unbeaten. Team Liquid (3-1) and Eternal Fire (3-1) are also in strong positions with one match each remaining, though their spots are not yet formally locked in. The remaining berths will be decided across Week 5, which begins April 29.
